For preventing the hair from becoming brittle and dry, hot oil massages and with olive oil is extremely beneficial. This helps in opening up the pores of the scalp. Another alternative is steaming the scalp before a massage. This can be done by placing the head in front of the basin of steaming hot water or soaking a towel in steaming water and then wrapping it around the scalp.
For extremely dry hair, before massaging the hair, rubs a little oil right into the scalp. Second massage with oil encourages better and deeper absorption. This helps in relaxing the scalp and loosens it so as to increase the blood circulation in the head.
Sometimes, the dryness of the scalp is also caused due to improper brushing. It should be kept in mind that the brush bristles must be first pressed gently into the scalp and then carried gently up to the hair tips. Hair should be washed with a lanolin-based shampoo and then rinsed with a gentle acidic solution so as to get rid of the alkaline mantle of the scalp. This can be done by using 2 tablespoon of cosmetic vinegar in the last rinse as this helps in preventing the excessive oiling and the scalp gets rid of the infection also.
For the right method of massaging, The tips of the finger should be placed firmly on the head at the nape of the neck, then with the fingers placed firmly on the head, move them in circular strokes first in the clockwise direction and then in anticlockwise direction moving the skin of the scalp as you move your fingers.
OILY HAIR:

too much brushing is harmful for oily hair as it stimulates the over active oil glands. Oily hair needs a hair wash every third or fourth day depending on the oiliness of the hair and for this purpose; a good oily shampoo should be used.
